past in unexpected ways.
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
Atwood’s
1985 tale of things gone awry in a near-future theocracy will get the series
treatment starring Elisabeth Moss.
The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman
Jessica
Chastain stars in this true story about a Polish couple who saved hundreds of
lives during Nazi occupation by hiding refugees in empty cages at their Warsaw
zoo.
Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach
Oscar-winning
writer Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love)
has written the script adapting the romantic 1999 period novel of art and
seduction by Deborah Moggach (The Best
Exotic Marigold Hotel).
The Dinner by Herman Koch
Over
several courses shared at a restaurant, two families meet to talk about a crime
that’s been committed by their sons. The
film stars Richard Gere.
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier
A man plans
to murder his cousin, played by Rachel Weisz.
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
The Destin
Daniel Cretton-directed adaptation of Walls' 2005 memoir stars Brie Larson,
Naomi Watts, Woody Harrelson, and Sarah Snook.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
HBO is
adapting Flynn’s novel. Amy Adams will star
as a reporter who returns to her hometown to investigate the murder of two
girls.
