Canadian Book Advent Calendar (Day 10) - "J" is for Johnston

For this year’s advent calendar, I am recommending Canadian authors/books found on Schatje’s Shelves.  Again, to make things more interesting/challenging, I will use the alphabet, skipping “X” and “Z”.  In total, I propose to focus on 50 Canadian writers, an early nod to Canada's 150th birthday next year.

“J” is for Wayne Johnston
Johnston’s fiction deals primarily with his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador, often in a historical setting. He has been called "this continent's best writer" by Kirkus Reviews.

Novels (which I recommend):
The Colony of Unrequited Dreams (shortlisted for the 1998 Giller Prize, Governor-General’s Award, and Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize)
The Navigator of New York (shortlisted for the 2002 Giller Prize and Governor-General’s Award)
The Custodian of Paradise (longlisted for the 2006 Giller Prize)
A World Elsewhere (longlisted for the 2011 Giller Prize)   See my review at http://schatjesshelves.blogspot.ca/2016/05/birthday-review-world-elsewhere-by.html.
The Son of a Certain Woman (longlisted for the 2013 Giller Prize and shortlisted for Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour)   See my review at http://schatjesshelves.blogspot.ca/2015/12/book-advent-calendar-day-10-son-of.html.
