Canadian Book Advent Calendar (Day 19) - "S" is for Shields

For this year’s advent calendar, I am recommending Canadian authors/books found on Schatje’s Shelves.  Again, to make things more interesting/challenging, I will use the alphabet, skipping “X” and “Z”.  In total, I propose to focus on 50 Canadian writers, an early nod to Canada's 150th birthday next year.

“S” is for Carol Shields
Shields is an American-born Canadian novelist best known for her 1993 novel The Stone Diaries, which won the U.S. Pulitzer Prize for Fiction as well as the Governor General's Award in Canada.

Novels (which I recommend):
Swann: A Mystery
The Republic of Love
The Stone Diaries (nominated for 1993 Man Booker Prize; winner of the 1993 Governor General's Award and the 1995 Pulitzer Prize)
Larry's Party (winner of the 1998 Orange Prize)
Unless (shortlisted  for 2002 Man Booker Prize and Giller Prize, and shortlisted for 2003 Orange Prize)
