WELCOME to Schatje's Shelves

For 30 years, I was a high school English teacher/teacher-librarian. Now that I'm retired, I have so much more time to read (and to enjoy the library my husband made for me).

Schatje’s Shelves is my reading blog devoted primarily to reviews of the books I acquire for my library - a library which has 8,625+ books (print, ebooks, audiobooks) and keeps growing. My focus is contemporary literary fiction (especially Canadian fiction) and mysteries.

I’ve been a book reviewer for a number of years and have posted hundreds of reviews on both Goodreads and LibraryThing. At the urging of a number of friends, I decided to start a blog. Now that blog, ranked as one of Canada's top book blogs, has had over half a million views!

Here I post reviews of books I have just finished reading and news items and articles of interest. All discussions will be related to books and reading. There will be no advertising since I'm not interested in making money, just sharing.
