Literary Flashback to 1908

I’m not a baseball fan, but I couldn’t help cheering for the Chicago Cubs (after the Toronto Blue Jays were eliminated).  The team had not won the World Series championship since 1908.  Last night they ended the longest championship drought in American sports and did it in epic fashion.

This morning I came across an article entitled “A Literary Look at the Last Time the Cubs Won the World Series” written by Emily Temple for Literary Hub.

1908 is the year that saw the birth of Simone de Beauvoir, Ian Fleming, William Saroyan, and Richard Wright.  It’s the year that saw the publication of such books as Anne of Green Gables, The Wind in the Willows and A Room with a View.
